County Manager & Clerk to the Board


The County Manager is charged with handling the day-to-day operations of County Government and ensures the Board of Commissioners' goals and objectives are met. His duties include preparing the recommended budget for all County departments and offices, recommending new and revised policies and programs to the Board of Commissioners, and implementing County programs and services in an efficient and effective manner. David Bone has held the appointed position of County Manager since October 2011. His previous experience includes 9 years as a manager in local government in eastern North Carolina. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and Masters Degree in Public Administration from NC Central University. Mr. Bone is a Certified Manager as certified by the International City/County Managers Association.

The Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners is the primary administrative assistant to the Board and County Manager. The Clerk prepares and promulgates meeting agendas, maintains the County's official files and coordinates the Commissioners' schedules. Marion Thompson has worked for Martin County since 2000 (having previously served in the Finance Department, ten of her thirty year career in administration/finance) and has served as Clerk to the Board since 2010. Mrs. Thompson has earned her certificate in County Administration through UNC-School of Government as well as earned the designation as a "North Carolina Certified County Clerk” (NCCCC).
